Senior clinician in Emergency and Critical Care in Bern, Switzerland

The Emergency and Intensive Care Service of the Small Animal Clinic of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, is looking for an a specialist (boarded or eligible) in Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC/ECVECC) or in Internal Medicine (ACVIM/ECVIM) with special interest in emergency and critical care to join the emergency and critical care team.

The Small Animal Clinic is a large regional referral hospital with multiple specialty services, including Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Cardiology. Clinical Pathology and services such as Microbiology, Pathology, Parasitology, etc are offered within the Vetsuisse Faculty. The hospital has an intensive care unit and a 24/7 emergency service operated by interns and residents with the support of senior clinicians. The Small Animal Clinic has a case load of 5,500 cases per year, of which almost half are emergency patients.

Apart from clinical duties (daytime emergency and ICU service coverage, after hour emergency backup), the candidate will be expected to actively participate in the supervision and training of residents (ECC as well as residents of other departments), teaching of interns and students, and take responsibility of certain administrative/organizational aspects. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, team spirit, and be eager to take initiative and to develop professionally.
