The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University invites applications for a clinical track or tenure track faculty position in the Section of Companion Animal Emergency and Critical Care. Candidates must have a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Board certification in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care is preferred, but candidates who have recently completed an approved residency and are board eligible in Emergency and Critical Care will also be considered.
The successful candidate will join three board-certified Companion Animal Emergency and Critical Care faculty members training five ECC residents working in a comprehensive teaching and referral hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Responsibilities will be determined in accordance with the service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate’s areas of expertise within the specialty of emergency and critical care medicine. Effort will be distributed among clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students and house officers, and independent and/or collaborative research. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at the College and University, including Weill Medical College and technology campuses in New York City.
Clinical duties require flexible working hours that may include daytime, evening, and weekend responsibilities. The successful candidate will share supervision of a 24-hour emergency receiving (ER) service as well as primary care of critically ill patients in the 30-cage intensive care unit (ICU) through the Critical Care (CC) Service. Both the ER and ICU are staffed 24 hours a day with licensed veterinary technicians (several with VTS ECC certification) with a mission for excellence in patient care. The ICU is open style with all specialty services (including the CC Service) providing primary care of the patients in the unit. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with surgical and medical specialists regarding case management.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
